HERA

For most countries, renewable energy is the only viable option to provide domestically generated secure energy independence, without by restarting coal-fired power and backtracking on existing climate commitments. By directly addressing the system instability created by renewable energy, HERA and ENODA’s Prime technologies enable electricity grids to operate securely and affordably with 100% renewable energy.

With respect to hydrogen specifically, HERA is designed to optimise production, storage, and dispatch of green hydrogen at the point of demand. By minimising the need for long-distance hydrogen pipelines and seaborne trade in hydrogen as ammonia, HERA enables the transition to green hydrogen without simply replacing the reliance on one imported fuel with reliance on another.

By utilising noise, transients, imbalances and low or negatively priced power, HERA can crush the cost of green hydrogen. The cost of HERA’s green hydrogen is dramatically lower than for other forms of green hydrogen; it eliminates the need for costly and technically complex hydrogen transportation by making use of the dynamics of electricity in the network itself. HERA can be sited at the point of hydrogen demand for example in an industrial site.

HERA uses Enoda PRIME technology to remove noise and harmonics from the grid by switching low or negatively valued electromotive force out of the signal, and then in real-time delivers the highest value - using this electromotive force either to produce hydrogen or to correct the signal. This green hydrogen can later be used as carbon-free vehicle fuel, industrial feedstock, or electricity production. This improves the quality of the signal in the grid, increases grid carrying capacity, and reduces the cost of HERA’s green hydrogen. HERA benefits from two revenue streams: provision of electricity, hydrogen, high-grade heat or cooling to the industrial site, and provision of stability services to the power grid.

HERA dynamically harmonises hydrogen electrolysis and hydrogen-fuelled turbines to support the electricity grid’s target frequency. Designed to produce highly valuable modes of energy at the lowest cost, HERA utilises low or negatively priced electricity and leverages balancing services revenue, including variable load and variable generation, to simultaneously balance the grid and produce lowest cost zero-carbon hydrogen.
